Design & Build
MSI’s range spans several build philosophies. The Cyborg 17 uses a lighter, translucent-accented chassis aimed at value, while the Thin 15 and Thin A15 keep weight and price down with practical plastic bodies. Step up to the Crosshair A16 HX, Katana 15 HX, and Crosshair 18 HX AI and you get sturdier frames, larger high-refresh displays, and more robust cooling. The 18-inch Crosshair is a true desktop replacement, big and heavy but engineered to sustain performance.
Performance
Performance scales cleanly across the lineup. The Thin A15 with RTX 2050 and the Thin 15 with RTX 4050 handle 1080p esports and lighter titles well. The Cyborg 17, Crosshair A16 HX, and Katana 15 HX all pack RTX 5060 graphics with fast Intel or AMD chips for smooth 1080p-to-1440p gaming at high refresh. At the top, the Crosshair 18 HX AI pairs a Core Ultra 9 with RTX 5070 and a sharp 240Hz display for demanding AAA play and creative workloads. Match the GPU tier to your target resolution and framerate.
Pros & Cons
- Wide range: Options for nearly every budget from entry to flagship.
- Current-gen graphics: RTX 50-series across most new models with DLSS support.
- High-refresh displays: 144Hz to 240Hz panels for smooth gameplay.
- Strong cooling: MSI’s Cooler Boost designs sustain performance under load.
- Battery life: Powerful models drain quickly away from the charger.
- Weight at the top end: The 18-inch Crosshair is heavy and desk-bound.
Alternatives to Consider
If you want maximum portability, a thinner ultrabook-style gaming laptop from another brand may suit better, though MSI’s Cyborg 17 is a solid balance. For pure desktop-replacement power, the Crosshair 18 HX AI competes directly with large ASUS ROG and Lenovo Legion machines, so cross-shop on display quality and cooling.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which new MSI laptop is best for most gamers?
The RTX 5060 models like the Cyborg 17, Katana 15 HX, and Crosshair A16 HX hit the sweet spot of price and 1440p performance for the majority of players.
Are MSI gaming laptops good for work too?
Yes. The higher-end models with Core Ultra 9 chips and ample RAM handle content creation and multitasking well, doubling as productivity machines.
How is battery life on these laptops?
Expect modest battery life under load; gaming laptops prioritize performance. Lighter use extends runtime, but keep the charger handy for gaming.
Do I need the 18-inch model?
Only if you want a desktop replacement with a large screen and top-tier cooling. For most, a 15- or 16-inch model is more practical and portable.
Verdict
MSI’s new lineup has a strong answer for every budget. For balanced value and performance, the Katana 15 HX and Crosshair A16 HX stand out, while the Crosshair 18 HX AI is the pick for those who want flagship power. Choose the screen size and GPU tier that match your games, and MSI delivers dependable performance across the board.
